After the exhaustion of midnight oils and daytime’s grease, Rigathi Gachagua (current Mathira MP) is announced as Dr William Ruto’s running mate. It definitely is a triumphant moment for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and many of their supporters. In the same light, the announcement could also have been an epitome of partial sobs of despair for those who had different expectations. Nevertheless, Gachagua it is. 

                                     

The man has won the heart of William Ruto from the genesis of the “Tangatanga” vs “Kieleweke” shows of might. However, this is just what meets the eyes of many and could perhaps be only a tickle in the considerations (I don’t know). Among the prestigious positions the man has held is that of personal assistant to Uhuru Kenyatta between 2002 and 2006. First-hand info (from him) has it that their work relationship was promising and a display of a collaborative duo. What changed this 12 years later going forward, since he has been among the fiercest critics of his former and current boss i.e. H.E Uhuru Kenyatta?

How comes he beat all the other hopefuls? Well, his character displays a bold, strong grassroot mobilizer and hence able to pull crowds towards a certain affiliation. Besides this, his energy in driving agenda and convincing the masses is quite immense. I’d say that he is able to surpass formalities and bond with the people. His tactics in countering tremors against his side are also worth a note. Ooh, what of the so called “deep pockets?”!! Despite this, the man has been arrested severally on accounts of graft, corruption so to say. He would thus (according to some analysts) be a man of mixed traits…this is accepted. How he acquired a national profile? Up to you to judge, it’s your opinion. The vote richness would also count greatly as politics has been, is and will forever be a game of numbers. 

                                           

Or do we put it this way… “The numbers are already there, and thus politics is a game of getting the best out of these numbers”. He might have passed this test.

The reality is that the running mate issue is foundational and no wonder it has taken the team such a relatively long time. Their comprehensive assessment saw Gachagua carry the day. However, the navigations to make after the announcement are many, and this will perhaps be accompanied by a series of dramatic and unprecedented moves. A second of indecisiveness or a slight blunder might plunge one into a regrettable oblivion, considerate of the times ahead 😂

Esbon intends not to write a biography for the man or even analyze politics, and thus leaves the following to you, esteemed readers. How will the claim for “corrupt personality” be handled? How will his mobilization act towards driving the voters (especially new ones) to the polling stations? How will the KK leaders act to indeed make him stand out among them, and their competitors? Ooh, what about his role in competition against their main rival, Azimio One-Kenya? 😑😑 (Remember the 50%+1 requirement, and also a majority in Legislature, which serves an advantage for the Executive).
